One glance. Fewer surprises.

The practical questions come first.

A beautiful beach list is not enough. Public Beach Finder is organized around the decisions that determine whether a beach actually works for your day.

01

Is it truly public?

Start with documented public saltwater access—not a pin dropped on private sand.

02

Can the dog come?

See seasonal dog policies, leash notes, and the date the supporting source was checked.

03

What will parking cost?

Review published parking guidance, hours, access notes, and the managing authority before leaving.

04

What is the ocean doing?

Layer NOAA tide predictions and National Weather Service forecasts onto the beach you selected.

Trust is a product feature

Every useful answer should lead back to a source.

Public Beach Finder separates a documented public record from a locally verified detail, then tells you when to check again.

01
Source

Begin with an accountable authority.

EPA beach records establish the national baseline. State, county, municipal, park, and beach-program pages add local detail.

02
Stamp

Show when a detail was checked.

Verification labels distinguish a recent official review from a national baseline record that still needs local enrichment.

03
Confirm

Make the current rule easy to verify.

Conditions, fees, closures, dog seasons, swimming areas, and parking can change. The managing authority remains the final word.

Built for the whole coast

A national baseline,
enriched town by town.

Federal coverage gets the map started. Local research makes it useful: parking pages, municipal ordinances, dog seasons, accessibility notes, lifeguard schedules, water-quality programs, and closure notices. This release publishes 8,416 rights-cleared official records plus eight curated profiles. The Maine Coastal Program inventory remains stored for research but is disabled pending rights review; EPA-sourced Maine records remain available. See current source status.

THE STANDARDPublic access first. No private-club directories. No invented rules. No false certainty.

Designed for changing coastlines

Clear about what is known—and what can change.

01

Freshness is visible

Dates and coverage labels help you understand whether a detail is locally verified or comes from the broader national record.

02

Safety is never implied

Tides and forecasts are planning aids. Posted signs, lifeguards, emergency officials, and the managing agency always take priority.

03

Corrections are moderated

User suggestions never silently rewrite a rule. They enter a review queue and require source confirmation before the catalog changes.
