Privacy policy
Useful at the coast. Quiet about you.
Public Beach Finder is designed without accounts, third-party advertising, cross-app tracking, or third-party analytics SDKs. This policy explains the limited information needed to operate the app and website.
Last updated August 30, 2026Nearest-beach sorting happens on your device.
No advertising identifier, ad network, or cross-app profile.
Ratings and corrections use a hashed random install identifier.
01
Publisher, operator, and scope
Public Beach Finder is developed, published, and operated by Peter Goodale, an individual developer. Goodale Studios is Peter Goodale’s publishing brand; it is not a separate company or legal entity.
This Privacy Policy applies to the Public Beach Finder iPhone and iPad app, the Public Beach Finder service at beaches.goodalestudios.com, and the related pages published under the Goodale Studios brand.
The app does not require an account. Peter Goodale does not include third-party advertising, sell personal information, build advertising profiles, or use third-party analytics SDKs in Public Beach Finder.
02
Beach catalog and conditions requests
When the app refreshes, it requests the current public-beach catalog from the service Peter Goodale operates under the Goodale Studios brand. When you open a beach, the app may request conditions using that beach’s public catalog identifier and coordinates. These requests do not need your name, email address, favorites, search text, or device location.
The service and its infrastructure providers may process ordinary network information—such as IP address, request time, requested route, response status, and technical device information—to deliver, secure, diagnose, and maintain the service. Peter Goodale does not use that information for advertising or cross-app tracking.
NOAA Tides & Currents and the National Weather Service provide tide predictions, forecasts, and active alerts. Requests use a public tide-station identifier or the selected beach’s catalog coordinates, not your current location.
03
Location, favorites, and search
Location access is optional and requested only after you choose nearest-beach sorting. Your device compares its current location with downloaded beach coordinates locally. Public Beach Finder does not send that location to Peter Goodale.
Favorite identifiers, searches, filters, and the cached beach catalog are stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes that local information from the device, subject to Apple backup and restore behavior.
Choosing Directions opens Apple Maps with the selected beach’s public name and catalog coordinates. Apple processes that request under its own privacy practices.
04
Ratings and corrections
If you submit a rating, the service receives the beach identifier, numeric score, and a randomly generated app-install identifier. The service converts that identifier into a one-way hash used to reduce duplicate ratings and abuse. It is not your Apple Account identifier or advertising identifier.
If you suggest a correction, the service also receives the field, proposed value, and optional note you enter. Corrections are reviewed privately against an official or authoritative source. Correction text is not published as user commentary.
Do not include your name, contact information, personal location history, private-property access details, or another person’s information in a correction.
05
Purchases and subscriptions
If Public Beach Finder Pro is offered, Apple processes purchases and subscription management. Peter Goodale receives transaction and entitlement information needed to unlock features and respond to subscription events, but does not receive your full payment-card information or Apple Account password.
Apple may provide aggregated sales and engagement reporting through App Store Connect. Apple’s own privacy policy applies to its payment and App Store services.
06
Retention and your choices
Peter Goodale retains approved numeric ratings and their hashed install identifiers while they remain useful to maintain rating integrity. Correction submissions may be retained while they are being verified and, after review, when needed to document a catalog decision, prevent abuse, or meet legal obligations. Rejected and no-longer-needed submission text is periodically removed.
You can deny or revoke location permission in iOS Settings, remove favorites in the app, delete local app data by deleting the app, and manage subscriptions through Apple. You may request access to or deletion of a support message or identifiable submission by emailing us. Because the app has no account and uses an anonymous hashed identifier, we may not be able to reliably locate every submission.
07
Infrastructure and external services
Peter Goodale uses hosting and database infrastructure to operate the catalog and website under the Goodale Studios brand. Those providers process information only as needed to provide, protect, and diagnose the service under their contractual and legal obligations.
External managing-agency pages, water-quality sites, NOAA, the National Weather Service, Apple Maps, and the App Store operate independently and apply their own terms and privacy policies when you use them.
08
Children’s privacy
Public Beach Finder does not require an account or knowingly seek personal information from children. A parent or guardian should supervise a child’s beach visits, map use, external links, purchases, correction submissions, and communication with support. Contact us if you believe a child submitted personal information.
09
Changes and contact
This policy may change as Public Beach Finder develops. Material changes will be posted here with a revised date. For privacy questions or requests, email support@goodalestudios.com and include “Public Beach Finder Privacy” in the subject.
